Most people hear the word Reiki and instantly picture someone lying for an hour on a heated massage table in a candlelit room with panpipe music playing in the background. This can be exquisite and beautifully Zen so definitely give it a go if you can.

But also…

It can feel wildly unrealistic for the average busy human who is juggling work, life, kids, laundry explosions and that one cupboard they keep pretending does not exist.

Reiki is a super powerful tool and it can be used practically in a way that fits real life.

For Tuesday afternoons when your last nerve is doing laps.

For mornings when you wake up already tense.

For days when your energy feels like it has been replaced by wet pasta.

So today I want to walk you through what Reiki looks like for actual people with actual schedules, kids, partners, cats that vomit on your carpet.

Reiki is not about having spare time. It is about getting your energy back.

You do not need to lie down for an hour… though you can if you wish.
You do not need incense… though you can if you wish.
You do not need a sound bath (though they are delicious).
You do not even need to leave your house… though you can if you wish.

I think you get the gist.

Reiki works because it helps your nervous system shift out of survival mode and into a state where your body can breathe again.

That shift can happen in minutes and it can happen on your sofa, your lunch break or even when you are hiding from your family in the bathroom (no judgement, we have all done it 🤣)

Your brain needs a moment to drop down a gear and Reiki can provide that moment for you.

What Reiki feels like when you are a normal, busy, slightly frazzled adult

People describe the experience differently, but here are the most common:

Reiki is a spiritual practice and when I first started my Level 1 I struggled to get my head around it. I spent years in corporate life as a practical problem solver who dealt in facts, so it all felt a bit woo in the beginning. This now gives me a brilliant grounding to teach Reiki in a way that feels accessible to everyone.

What it looks like for me is a way to connect deeply with myself. It is meditative without having to meditate and it helps me connect mind and body in a way that feels comforting. When we calm our body and mind, our energy increases because we are no longer stuck in fight or flight.

Your body knows what to do when it is given the right signal. Reiki gives it that signal.

When you are in the messy middle of something, whether it is life in general or something more specific, one of the biggest challenges is feeling time poor. You are too busy dealing with the mess, the house, the project, the emotions, the everything to stop and look after yourself.
